About the Product
What is a Montana River Days poster?
Each poster is a personalized piece of wall art built around one real day on one real Montana river. You choose the river, the fish species, and a date that means something to you. We pull the actual historical record for that day, USGS flow and gauge height, sunrise and sunset times, water temperature, and weather conditions, and turn it into a one of a kind print centered on a real hydrograph curve for that river's full year, with your specific date marked on it.
What date should I use?
Any day that matters to you. The day you met. Your child's birthday. A graduation. The day you landed your first fish, retired, closed on a house, got married, or came home from deployment. This isn't limited to relationships. If the date matters to you, it belongs on a river.
What rivers and fish species are available?
Choose any combination of river and fish species you like:
Rivers: Madison River, Gallatin River, Yellowstone River Fish: Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Cutthroat Trout
Each species has its own hand illustrated design and color palette, so you can pair whichever fish means the most to you with whichever river matters to your memory, regardless of which fish is most commonly associated with that water.
Can I choose any date, even a very old one?
In most cases, yes. Each river has decades of solid historical coverage:
- Madison River: covered from 1951 onward, with one gap between 1973 and 1977 where no reliable data exists
- Gallatin River: covered from 1930 onward, with a couple of minor gap years worth double checking around 1970 and 1981 to 1984
- Yellowstone River: covered from 1918 onward with no significant gaps
If you select a date that falls in a gap, we will reach out before production to help you pick the closest available date instead.
Is the data on the poster real?
Yes. Every number on the poster (flow rate, gauge height, water temperature, weather, sunriseand sunset) comes from the actual USGS gauge station and historical weather record nearest that river for your chosen date. The hydrograph curve is the river's true flow for the entire year, not a decorative graphic.
