I'm Andrew, and I live in Bozeman, Montana, where the rivers are close enough to reach before work and good enough to keep me coming back after.
I picked up fly fishing about four years ago in Colorado, and it did not take long to take over. Not long after, I moved out to Montana to chase it properly, more water, more variety, more of the kind of technical, native trout fishing that teaches you patience. I fell in love with it fast, and I'm still building the rest of my life around staying here.
The idea for Montana River Days came from a simple observation: almost everyone has a special day. A day they met someone, a day something changed, a day worth holding onto. And for a lot of us who live here, that special day usually happened near a river. So I started thinking about what it would look like to actually remember that day by the river itself, not just the memory of it, but the real data of how that river was behaving while it happened. The flow, the weather, the exact conditions. A poster that isn't just decoration, but an actual record of that day.
So that's what each poster is. You pick a river, a fish, and a date, whether that's the day you met someone, the day your kid was born, a graduation, a retirement, or just a day on the water you never want to forget. From there, I pull the real historical record for that exact day: the actual flow of that river, the weather, the water temperature, sunrise and sunset. Nothing on the poster is decorative or invented. It's the river, exactly as it was, on the day that mattered to you.
Every poster is hand built, not automated. I pull the data myself, lay it into the design, and send you a proof before anything goes to print. That takes a little longer than an instant download, and I'm alright with that. This whole project runs on the belief that some things are better slow, built with care instead of rushed out the door. If you're the kind of person who'd rather wait for something done right than get something done fast, I think you'll feel at home here.
I'm not a big operation. It's just me, building these one river and one date at a time, the same way I'd tie a fly for a specific hatch rather than grabbing whatever's already in the box.
Thanks for being here, and for letting me be part of however you choose to remember your day.
If you see me on the water, don't be shy. Come say hi!
